Reg sticker? Peel or stack?

Unbelievably, my 992 is a year old and I have the '22 registration sticker to put on. Trying to decide if I should peel off the existing one and start fresh every year, or stack them up... I've seen some old original-owner cars with a quarter inch of stickers, which is kind of cool, but it also looks kind of sloppy. Decisions, decisions...

For me it has been variable based upon the texture of the license plate. Some plates are smoother and the stickers come off super easily. Other plates are more porous with a texture and I've always struggled to get the first sticker from the plate off.

Mostly what i've done is put year two on top of one and then every year remove that 2nd sticker.
For the plates that are super smooth and the stickers come off easily, I'd go back to bare.

On a side note, the loaner car that I have right now for the wife's car has an odd case where whoever replaced it stuck it just about the worst i've ever seen. Made me laugh...

How to the police enforce registration then?

Simply read the plate - electronically - auto character recognition cameras without the officer leaving the cruiser

You will see police cruisers with multiple devices on the trunk drive by parked and moving cars and check registrations, violations etc

Peel if you can get the sticker off. It’s hard to stack them neatly.

By the time new-sticker season happens here (every couple years in spring) I'm ready to do a serious clean-and-detail, so the plates are off anyway. A little heat (hair dryer, -maybe- carefully with a heat gun) softens the old sticker glue, so careful razor blade technique will get the old one off with no trouble. Clean any glue residue off with alcohol or wax/adhesive remover. Then the new sticker goes on, with placement consideration for how your Carpokes plate frame fits over the plate. Careful wax/seal the whole thing, then back on the car after it's been waxed/sealed.

How many people run plastic shields/covers over at least the front plate? For my cars, I work hard to keep the front plate low and angled enough to make it just a bit harder to read from a traffic cam up on a pole. Not much chance anybody out in the wild knows how the front plates fit on my car anyway, so my no-drill mount that holds the plate tight to the front apron below the nose is the way it came from Germany. My front plate covers are permanently stained inside by brown road deicer and red cinders that the car itself has never driven through. I have no idea how that got there, and it doesn't wash off officer. Same as the front plates on your cruiser... Anyway, they are hard to read at best at ground level. Most cars driven in the winter here have similar staining on plates themselves if they aren't kept clean and protected with at least paint sealant.

I don't drive fast any more, so no worries here generally.

I usually stack and wait until I have about 5 of them and then I peel and stick a new one on.

It's dependent on the state you are in and how easy you can get off. I usually try to remove every few years when get a few on. JS
