Hmm.. car is an '88 built in August '87

Yes your cover looks different.. my right side hole goes onto a horizontal stud as you can see by the wall anchor lol

I can tell you that the holes do not reach the studs unless you really push up on the harness... and that harness is very, very stiff!!

I almost couldn't get it back on and I am surprised the little nuts hold with all that back tension from the harness

Right, the harness is like concrete. I can only imagine what horror is would be if I cracked a wire off in there.... It would need to move up at least an inch, probably two. It's been fine for about 30 years this way, so I'm starting to think I should leave well enough alone.

I was more concerned with leaving the harness exposed: my left foot would constantly rub on it to the point that some of the tape was rubbing off!

Darn Italian dress shoes and their long pointy tips lol

Oh no! I hope you didn't get the wrong one :( My harness has sagged over the years since I removed my cover so it does serve a purpose. I will definitely be reinstalling mine, but that harness is so thick right there!

No, no, I'm 99% sure you sent me the right one for my '86. Thanks again. It matches PET, and Dan's car uses a different part number. Whether I'll ever get it on is an entirely different issue, but I do think it's the right one. :)

Unbolt the fuse box under the hood and lift the harness up... install the cover... then reinstall the fuse box

I pulled the fuse box up to get at the clutch master rod... sure, the harness is stiff, but I hardly think the wires are so brittle that you can't maneuver them

How many times have we handled that stiff harness at the ECU/DME?

I'll take another swing at it soon. I did try pulling up the fuse box, but wimped out on pulling hard enough to do any good.
