Hey friends,

Anyone on here have their alternator rebuilt recently? I live in Central VA and I am also OK sending it away.

Went out for a joy ride last weekend when I started hearing a terrible buzz at lower revs. Came home, started wrenching, :D ... Got the fan out and clean, sprayed some electric motor cleaner in the alternator, replaced the spacers and the belt  buzz was gone but the light stayed on.

Let me know what y'all think!

I can't help with a shop recommendation, but 100% endorse you having your existing alternator rebuilt. It seems buying new "rebuilt" units is a huge gamble these days. I went through 2 that arrived defective before I just had my original rebuilt by a local shop. No problems since.

Thanks for the reply Cario! I'll still haven't moved on anything yet in the hope that I can find a local shop or another trusted place I can mail it to.

I think this is kind of late to be useful to yonnie no.9, but perhaps someone else may look at this thread leter.
I recommend Quality Power (qualitypowerauto.com) in Yucaipa, CA. You can look at the Yelp ratings for this business to see my writeup.
