Kinda reminiscing and philosophical at the same time.

I was sitting in my 2008 BMW 135i today and suddenly realized it had a conventional mechanically operated parking brake.

I started thinking why manufacturers change design and decided that 2 things come into play - function and cost.

I never use the mechanical parking brake and just place the transmission in park.

I can see where the electronic parking brake saves literally millions of dollars for a high volume manufacturer.

Then I started thinking about plastic fasteners vs metal screws - not only are they probably cheaper but are faster to install 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

More millions in the manufacturers pocket.

Now I will go back to sleep 😂😂😂

Just saying here, but I think electronic parking brakes require expensive chips while the mechanical parking brake require much more normal mechanical parts? Is it millions of dollars? I have no clue.

Off topic, but when are you in the Atlanta area? I'd like to do a low key "Porsche event" in our area (show and/or driving event). Are you interested?

If you arrange an Atlanta get-together, I'll gladly supply Carpokes t-shirts or hats or other swag to commemorate the occasion!

I am working on it. We had an Atlanta area Caffeine and Octane last weekend. It's the one on Moter Trend TV.

Porsche USA had a booth. I got a contact that works in the marketing department. They are all going to Monterey, CA later this month for some car event?

I attended two of these CA events. I remember buying souvenir shirts on Thursday before the selection was low. There is nothing like being part of the Porsche Werks Reunion at Monterey.

I'm in Alabama but might be interested in the get together if my schedule permits. I have grandkids in the Atlanta area so could kill two birds.
