So I have two 1986 944 Turbos...
One of them the clutch starts engaging almost at the end of the travel - very close to the little bump in the pedal right before it comes to rest. The other one seems to engage a little earlier.
Does that mean my clutch is almost ready for a replacement or is this engagement position adjustable?
Also, it gets a little sticky right there at almost the end of the travel, when it starts engaging.
Thanks - Paul

Last time I had a sticky pedal, it was one of the two hydraulic cylinders (changed both same time)
There is a free play adjustment but I doubt that's it... however, lightly tap the brake pedal a few times... the clutch pedal should have similar free play at start
ADD: technically, the hydraulic clutch system is self adjusting for wear but like your brakes, new is new and with all new components and proper free play adjustment, it catches pretty quick off the floor. It is fairly easy to check the state of affairs using the inspection hole at the bellhousing. Check the workshop manual for the procedure or watch this video

It's normal for 944 clutch to engage mid to late travel. I learned to not even push the clutch all the way to the floor during shifts.
My 87 NA also has a similar biting point, clutch releases high, a third of the way down to the floor, and bites around the same (almost towards the top). My clutch and flywheel have around 10k miles on them.
Is this because the clutch newer, does the clutch bitting point lower as the clutch wears because of the hydraulic setup?
I’m new to 944’s and don’t know what would be consider normal. I’m used to my 987.2 which has shorter pedal travel and can feel it start biting almost as soon as I start releasing the clutch. Bite gets higher as the clutch wears. I find myself riding the clutch longer on the 944 than I would on the 987.
I’ve already adjusted the pedal free play. When I first got the car free play was an inch, inch and a half. Adjusted to 3mm, this improved pedal travel feel tremendously but still bites high.
