Most of the speakers are NLA. I'll be trying to place an order soon because some show available, but I'm not going to hold my breath! (Others have told me they have tried with no luck, and Porsche Classic won't be making any anytime soon)
For those curious or who don't know part numbers, here they are:
944-645-419-00 Front mid range
944-645-429-00 Front woofer
944-645-425-00 Rear woofer
944-645-427-00 Front tweeter
I can't find a PN for the rear tweeter. It seems to be a part of the rear C-pillar trim/speaker grille. I can't verify that it's the same as the front until I remove mine.
There apparently is a company that will repair your original speakers for a very reasonable price.

I'll update if I can actually order the speakers.
For anyone with the 10-speaker audio system

Are these the same as the 968 10-speaker system? If so, 'somewhere' I should still have the speakers that came with the 968 interior I used in my car...

I believe the mid range and woofers may be, but the tweeter is probably a little different considering how I’ve seen it mount in the 968 doors?
Too bad the sizes are so off kilter.

I re-foamed the speakers in my 10-speaker 928 pretty easily. It's quite likely that the 944 speakers are similar. The cones were intact, but the foam surround/supports for the cones had deteriorated with age. I found the surrounds easily online (don't have links, it's been a long while) with the inner and outer dimensions (cone and frame diameters). The old foam gets carefully removed and the cone cleaned of remaining debris. The new foam is installed with some white "slow-cure contact cement". Sounds oxymoronic, but the slow-cure gives the chance to center the cone in the frame before the glue sets up. I added some temporary marks on the cone so I could verify that it's centered before adding the glued foam support rings. Project took a casual Saturday morning on the workbench. I was very interested in maintaining the original covers/grills intact, so better to refurbish vs. using aftermarket or other compromise replacements.

That is exactly my problem. The cones are fine but the outer foam rings are pretty much gone. Beyond that, I don’t know how to troubleshoot audio equipment, but I don’t have any speakers that aren’t at least making some sound.dr bob wrote: Wed Jul 28, 2021 11:43 am I re-foamed the speakers in my 10-speaker 928 pretty easily. I just need to source OE tweeters. Mine were replaced at some point with non factory ones, and they just cut the wire and crimped them directly onto the car harness…

Sounds like (sorry...) fitting new foam surrounds will solve the basic issues. Finding original tweeters may or may not be a challenge. To your benefit, Porsche sold a LOT more 944's than 928's, so there's hope. If you can find original grills, more than a few cars have been resto-mod'd with printed adapters to fit factory covers over modern tweeters. My 928 has a mishmash of factory 2 ohm, 4 ohm and 8 ohm speakers, driven by a separate remote amp. No clue if the 944 series have a similar assortment, but be aware of the possibility as you tweeter shop.

Darwin -- do you have a picture of the tweeters you need? I can venture into the wilderness of my shed and see what I have...

I think this is what they look like. I can't say for sure as I've never had stock units and I haven't ever looked for photos of themTom wrote: Wed Jul 28, 2021 4:56 pm Darwin -- do you have a picture of the tweeters you need? I can venture into the wilderness of my shed and see what I have...

If my research is correct, on a 944 it's the same front and back. I have never seen a picture of a rear tweeter removed from the c-pillar trim so I cannot confirm, but from the rear they appear to be the same.
