shiny aluminum power steering reservoir that fits 944s

hey guys, i'm new here but have a couple of '86 turbos i'm currently working on building engines for and other things, but one thing i've kinda been looking for for years but havent found is an aluminum power steering reservoir. I've seen them for years, including on the Carpokes web page banner graphic of a beautiful turbo engine... Can anyone tell me what car these are being adapted from for our use or something about where i can find them?

i've seen a couple of things that looked like 'maybe' but were pricey enough that i didnt wanna gamble...

A long time ago I think it was like around the 2007 era. We did a group by with a company called Forge and they made a power steering reservoir for this particular model and obviously the 928 I believe it fits a few models.
They probably still make it, but I haven’t been playing with that car for sometime

I found a couple of “maybes" as well… I just spoke with a specialist at Forge Motorsport and apparently they’ve discontinued most of their power steering reservoir products. In fact, they don’t have any on their website, nor do they carry any products tailored to the 944.

However, there are two nearly identical tanks made by Forge for other vehicles on the MVP Motorsports website.

I asked both MVP and Forge if they had product dimensions on these, MVP had very little data, Forge said they might be able to look it up and email me, but I haven’t heard back from them yet. Also, I was not able to confirm if these tanks include a built-in filter element like the OEM Porsche ones do, but if the diameter and height dimensions are similar, they should clamp up fine. A slightly expensive “test install” though at $250 per unit.

BMW reservoir is almost identical. I tried one from a vendor (euro power motorsports) but they made it bigger(taller) than stock, so it hits the hood.

Someone could try this and report back, it looks like stock height.

The reservoirs are common to almost every euro car that uses ZF steering racks and pumps. They do have a filter inside, something that may not be included in the metal versions. The aftermarket metal ones you picture for the BMW look to have the outlet port angles to one side, where IIRC the one in my 928 has vertical connections. I'm not sure the advantage of either except the factory hose fitments are for vertical. You can get clones of the original (branded ZF but who knows...) for $30-200.

I see an aluminum reservoir listed on ebay here https://www.ebay.com/itm/364154366783?c ... 83d9094b0b, would need some paint removal and polishing to match the target, but at <$30 would be an interesting option. You might message the vendor and see if a group run of them unfinished or polished might be available.

thanx for all the useful replies, guys. I've got a few things to look at later this afternoon then, but yeah dont mind experimenting with something in the <$50 range I'll be sure to let folks know how it works out.

ok, so i ran out to the garage and quickly checked the measurements and i've got one of the cheap ebay varients on the way. i'm not typically keen on cheap chinese bits on my car but its on its way now so i'll post some pics once i see how it fits! (it is a polished bottle, btw, and with a blue cap. we'll see..)
