My 951 (formerly my son's) currently has a used torque tube from a 944 S2 that he had installed some years ago. We kept his original TT and I'm now considering rebuilding it with Constantine's Super Bearings, of which there are two designs:

1) Steel shielded (SS) bearings are best for performance or racing but let their grease out and dirt in over time.
2) Rubber shielded (RS) bearings are best for normal street driving and keep their grease in and dirt out better and are smoother and quieter in operation. Think longevity.

For comparison, Porsche used smaller SS bearings in all their torque tubes.

I'm leaning towards the RS bearings, but for a turbo maybe the SS would be better? If anyone else has or had installed either of these bearings I'd love to hear about them. Thanks.

Knowing too well that the replacement of the bearings is a pig of a job I'd go for longevity.

Either version would work as I'm gettin' too old to outlive whatever I install since the 951 is an occasional use vehicle. And I'm not planning to install the rebuilt TT right away... I just want the option as I think a 1989 951deserves a non-split tube, and I've had this 951 TT in my garage for quite a few years and would like to get it updated.
