I'm putting the dash back in and all seems fine. All the mounting screws went back in their original holes no problem and it all seems secure and tight and "looks" right inside. But if you look just right from the outside and shine a light in the right place, you can see a little gap between the dash and base of the windshield. There is black felt there, and the windshield has a black strip at the bottom, so you would never notice if it you didn't go looking for it, so just trying to figure out if this is normal? Can someone take a look at theirs and see if it's like this?

@Tom do you know if this gap was there before dash removal?

I don't. That's the big question. I never noticed the gap, but it's not something you'd see unless you go looking for it. Darwin was nice enough to text me a picture of his, and it looks pretty much the same, so I'm thinking that's just how they are. It's not like there's anything to adjust with all the bolts in place, so am just looking for a little peace of mind that I wasn't missing anything... Would still love to see someone else's just to triangulate a bit. :)

Tom,

On my car MY86 with original dash, I do not see a gap.

Isn't the leather on the dash adding enough thickness to prevent the dash to slide back all the way in?

Thanks all, very much appreciate it! I was all ready to convince myself it was normal with the gap, but couldn't sleep that way. Based on mismatched screws, etc., it's pretty clear this dash has been out before and so I think I inherited someone's prior installation issues. Based on the mounting brackets and 'before' pictures, I'm fairly sure it's been this way since I got it. Not sure if those strap brackets got bent or if that's how it came from the factory, but there was no way the dash could slide all the in the way it was. So after mulling lots of overly-ambitious ideas involving the TIG welder, I decided to just hog out the strap bracket enough so the dash could push back all the way. With that, the gap is gone. :)
