I am wondering if there are any recommendations for a good independent mechanic / shop in the Fort Myers, Florida, area to inspect and work on a 993 C4.

Glad to see you trying again to get some feedback from someone in the Fort Myers area, this time in a wider-reaching thread.
I don't know if you're a PCA member, but one thing you might consider is trying to contact someone in your local region. I imagine that there will be many in the local club who have experience and knowledge of good indies for your 993. You should be able to get some good leads.
Fort Myers is part of the Everglades region PCA, so maybe consider that option. The calendar at their website should list events such as Cars & Coffee, club meetings, and the like.
