While general maintenance has been kept up on my (new to me) 944 S, I’m finding parts that after 37 years are just wearing out. An example is the air guide. I discovered its deteriorating condition when I took off the front nose panel to replace the very weathered Porsche crest.

On the 944 S, and maybe all 944’s, if you look at the front, at bumper level, you’ll see that the body doesn’t come flat to the bumper. Rather, across the front, there’s roughly a 5/6” or 8mm opening. In between the headlights is the nose panel, around 23” wide, with the Porsche crest on it. Under the nose panel is empty space, which is sealed by the air guide, with an opening for the air filter intake. Here’s the old and the new:

The new air guide seals that compartment really well, as well as sealing around the air filter intake. Assume it’s function is to get cooler outside, non-engine-heated-air, to the air intake. Apparently not a high demand part in the US, as it had to be ordered from Germany by the Porsche dealer. Couple of screws and clips hold it in place, and Clarks Garage has steps to remove the nose panel.
