Human carbon based life forms are so hesitant in many cases to accept change, yet if we pause and view history we can see the benefits we have gotten through accomplishments in so many areas that affect our lives. I know many of us bemoaned Porsche scavenging the Cayman and other ICE Machines for their Energizer Bunny replacements, even while realizing those machines will make up a strong portion of our transportation needs in the years to come. The balance needed, though, was that Infrastructure in the World works at a slower pace than rapid technical innovation and it is questionable the full grasp of such a huge change was logically noted. We will have many modes of transportation in the coming decades, but I applaud Ford for changing the focus towards more Hybrids ( Toyota pursued this goal from day one ) with a more measured growth with EVs. I have no doubt we will have a very strong grid for EV machines in the future, but the change demands we and others wake up to the demands of the utility structure in most Countries. Giving themselves more time means we likely will see more advancement in all areas , whether ICE, Hybrid , or EV. To me that means we may go through another phase of heavy ICE development , power wise, both to meet air quality standards, and to work more in unison with hybrid propulsion. I imagine the EV market will expand also as Infrastructure grows , but all these situations happening at present will hopefully cause Porsche to shift gears and help them continue with many of their ICE sports machines, and to develop hybrids with equal verve as they have committed to EVs in the past half decade. I know my son's Cayenne Hybrid blows me away, not only with its insane fuel mileage, but as a track rat, it is a superb tow vehicle. On a trip to Illinois last month when a conventional vehicle would shift down 1 or 2 gears up a hill while pulling an enclosed trailer, the battery pack added torque and up we went with no pause. I am all in with this and I am hoping my next truck as a solid system as the mileage will go up and the drive is more pleasurable. Sorry to ramble, but I am optimistically stating I hope Porsche views the real market dynamics in play, and continues the 718 and others beyond the short time they have acquiesced to continue, and to that end they also drop back and view the Hybrid models they make and their advantages and spread it to all lines. Nuff said.................yes, I do tend to ramble on, ha!
