Oil brand recommendation

Hi everyone,
New to the Porsche world. In September I picked up a 07 Cayman base, sport chrono, Bose, etc. with 5speed and 70K miles for a good price. I did a PPI, and it came back good except for bumpstops (gone) and some moisture in the brake fluid. Pretty well maintained, but a month in, the water pump pulley sheared off, belt jumped, bent the tensioners, etc. Not blaming anyone, but I digress. Car is now running great and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

I want to do an oil change with a brake fluid flush and fill. Any recommendations on oil brand? Mobil 1? Liquimoly? something else? It's not a daily and I have no plans to drive it on the track.

I always wanted a Porsche and I figured it was time. (I'm in my early 60s so if not now, when?!?!?!).

Any other thoughts and suggestions for upkeep on a 987.1 are welcome. Thank you!

Oh boy , asking about motor oil can turn into a rumble 😋 . I worked for 5 years for one of the top Porsche engine builders in the US . Based on hundreds of engines and thousands of oil samples I will say this . He recommends Liqui Moly . Let the war begin 😁

How true!

Liqui Moly is definitely one of the best out there, among others. My thought for the non highly specific race motor builds is that any from the top tier manufacturers are fine and that other factors are more important, including type of motor and intended use, but that's just my untrained thoughts.

I think builders such as DeMan Motorsport's 4.5L GT4 builds may require specific sets of oil on their engines for instance, but I consider those kinds of situations outside of the norm for OEM type users.

We had a bit of sponsorship from LiquiMoly when we were running WRL & ChampCar. They were good to us and great to work with.

For the OP (@Silver Surfer ), here is a good technical FAQ on oil from LN Engineering. They cover Driven oil which is not one I have ever used and know little about except that many consider it to be one of the best, again depending on application.

Oil factoids and info for water-cooled Porsches is discussed in several paragraphs there (13th down in the main body if I counted correctly and again in some of the Q and A's further down from that. I just page searched "water".)

I run Driven DI40 in my 987.2 and have had good luck with it. After I first started using it I could tell that the engine was quieter on startup unlike the Mobil 1 that I used to use. Not saying it’s any better than Mobil 1 but my experience with Driven oil was favorable for me.

I've always used Mobil 1 in everything IC powered including lawn mowers, snow blowers, and all my vehicles. BTW I'm close to 81 and drive my 09 Boxster S like there's no tomorrow! Age is just a number! Lol Enjoy!

Lokasil and alusil blocks need Molybdenum; a friction modifier to minimize silicon migration out of the cylinders over time which is a big contributor for bore score. 4 years ago I switched from LiquiMoly 5W-40 to Driven DT40 5W-40 Oil. 07CS Manual 52K mi. I pull a UOA sample on my Oil /filter changes and Molybdenum element PPM's with LiquiMoly ran 97 ppm's. With Driven oil Molybdenum ppm's increased to 427 ppm's. Proof is in the numbers.....
