Being fairly new to the Porsche community, I'm curious to understand the term "Rennlist Refugee" I've seen in the New Member Intro thread.

Any "Rennlist Refugees" care to chime in?

I’m thinking it’s people who got frustrated with the Rennlist forum and are looking for more laid back discussion.

What Norville said pretty much sums it up as I see it. However, Tom and others can add more specifics I'm sure!

@fjord384

Here are a couple of Tom's Carpokes ads that he has run in Panorama and elsewhere. They sums up the philosophy and the goals Tom had when he created Carpokes. There are good people here!

PS - Fjord Green is on my very, very short list of about five or six PTS colors should that opportunity ever arise!

Man, you're good!

Rennlist started off much like Carpokes, with a strong esprit de corps, but was then bought out by a private equity portfolio company (i.e., Internet Brands -- the PAC-MAN of previously successful internet sites). The whole purpose of the site and its basic character have never been the same in my opinion, sadly. I could go on and on, but no one likes to hear ugly divorce stories. :) Long live Carpokes -- onward and upward!!

Rennlist was started years ago by a Porsche enthusiast with the idea of bring others together to share tips and how to information.

It was originally an email list, then migrated to a web forum in 2001. The community was unsurpassed until a few things happened to reveal, in some instances, the bad side of folks. Regardless, the owner created rules such that retailers couldn't poach members and the understanding was that the community came first.

A few years ago, the web forum was sold to Internet Brands (IB) who then took over day-to-day operations. As such, it is a business now with an eye toward ad revenue to reward the investors. As such, some 'sponsors' have not been forthright with members - and in some instances, unscrupulous behaviors where some guys have been fleeced for several thousand dollars with nothing to show for that except a thread of commentary. Community sourced moderators were dispatched en masse after voicing concerns for the behaviors and direction that the owners were taking the web forum.

So, here we are at Carpokes (no, I wasn't a moderator - just someone who has been a member since 1999 when it was an email list and happen to know the guy who started it).

Well stated gentlemen. I have also moved on from Rennlist. I got tired of the same guy making unnecessary comments on every single post just to have a count of 35,000. It's ridiculous. If you can help, help. If your comment is consistently off topic please spare me.

I have been a member of RL for about 1.5 years so fairly new . For the most part I enjoy the forum and knowledge available . Like all public forums you will have douche nozzles that are know it all and like to stir the pot .

My dad taught me early in life not to argue with an idiot 😁 . Life too short to get caught up in stupid worthless BS . I joined this forum less than a year ago . So far no complaints . The nice thing about having multiple car forums or any forums for that matter is you can choose which to participate in .

I have been on Pelican Parts forum for a very long time and still enjoy it to this day . For me if I can't get an answer/solution to a problem between those three then there probably isn't a solution . I encourage everyone to remember we are all car enthusiasts. Let's keep the passion positive and moving forward . Sorry for the long comments .

Long time RL member. However,for me it is just for the local Canadian forum where there are many people whom I know personally -we have a summer cars and coffee most weekends as well as some track days.
Less structured than the local PCA forum for this purpose. I rarely go to the general sections.
