Looking at the second hand market in Belgium/Europe, it's obvious that there are a lot of Cayennes for sale. Is it because it is a very popular car and there's a lot of availability? Or is it because the older models are not dependable and thus are discarded?

I've been wondering (and eyeing) them.

I think it's some of both things you mentioned, plus other concerns that are always in the mix. Cayenne sales have remained mostly strong over the years and in general the company does not limit production much, certainly not like the near lock-down of their sports cars, so secondary supply is relatively good both where you are and here in U.S.

As to the other part you mentioned, dependability, it partially drove my decision to make the change from the '19 Turbo to the just ordered "S". They are complex and expensive to repair and those thoughts cross the mind once out of warranty. CPO vehicles (as our '19 will end up being for someone) make a lot of sense because of the Porsche wty it will carry for the next owner.

There are some know faults in various model but in my experience they are plenty tough . I eventually let my 2008 Cayenne S go to a neighbour with 310,000km on it and it is still running ., I replaced it with a new 2022 GTS which has been trouble-free.

I still have my 2016 Turbo with 40K miles on it. I'll keep it awhile longer, still runs and looks good.

With over 104,000 produced in 2022 and 2023 supposed to eclipse that level, the Cayenne is no longer a low production vehicle. In fact since 2018 every year has seen more than 75,000 made and with demand seemingly growing who knows what 2024 will bring. Casual observation of trade ins at Porsche of Omaha over the past few years, there appears to be quite a few BMW and Mercedes being traded in, as well as Lexus and Rover. My views are just casual observations, but I think the Cayenne model line up and option choices are becoming more and more appealing to the buyer of a high end SUVs!

It looks like the distribution of Porsche models depends on the region of the country. Where I live, the most popular models are the Taycan and Macan followed by the Cayenne and the 911. The 718 and Panamera are pretty rare. Merry Christmas to all!

Cayennes and Macans are hugely popular in the Midwest, but 718s are super popular too, so much so that they are often ordered way ahead. Since they ( Porsche of Omaha ) built a new Store their allocation has gone up and they seem to get quite a few used ones in also. My son, Ryan Pemberton , has been with the Dealer Group for 21 years and since I worked for them for 27 years , I end up wandering down there more than I need to . I am glad that selling all the Vipers I did around the Country and getting the Company to acquire numerous enclosed is still paying off, as now Ryan is shipping Porsches to many folks around the US.

He recently got in a Gray GT4RS with only 554 miles ---must have been too fast for the guy ,ha!

I would guess that 911’s are 25-50 times more popular here than 718’s. In the last 2.5 years, I have only seen two other GTS 4.0’s on the road. There are way more Ferraris and McLarens than 718’s.
