Wow! I had one of these back in the dark ages. I thought they had all gone. Cool find.

I had a red over black V6 with manual transmission back in the day . Mine had chrome bumpers so a 72/73 . Loved that car . Only problem I ever had was the phenolic gear driving the camshaft didn't like the cold NY winter and sheared teeth off . I fixed it in my driveway in February , I nearly froze to death . Good luck with it .

This car brings me back to high school. Our school parking lot didn't have many cool cars (at all), but we had a few of these Capri's and they were about as cool as any one got. Can't wait to watch this one transform!

Nice!

I had a yellow one in high school until I plowed it into a guardrail getting on “the” 405 in SoCal.

I did learn how to drift it before drifting was a thing.

Keep us posted!

In the mid 80s I bought a 1972 Capri. Red with tan interior. It had V6 and 4 speed. It was sitting under a car port near in my neighborhood. The owner said he didn’t know what was wrong with it. I bought it for the princely sum of $150! Timing chain needed replacement. I did it myself for very little money. I drove it for several years and until I finally sold it. Great car!

Waiting on parts as I've been working through the fuel and cooling systems. So I started refreshing the first wheel while I wait.

Since that last post, I've finished de-smogging the engine, verified that it runs (yay!), refinished all the wheels and installed the new tires, done a complete brake overhaul (master cylinder, hoses and all), and started putting the dash back together at least far enough to be drivable.

More to come, of course.

Another milestone—it moved under its own power today. Not far, and not ready for the road yet. But getting closer.

Even though I only drove it a block or so total, I still learned a few things. One is that the front strut inserts are totally hosed, the front bounces uncontrollably over any small dip. Another is that the brake pedal doesn't like to return when the clutch is depressed—I found that the clutch pedal bushings are not just bad, they are totally non-existent. And the engine refuses to run much below 1500 rpm or so, even when warmed. I suspect the idle circuit on the carb is totally clogged.
