Living in Canada of course makes winter a little more impactful than (say) Florida...
A nice Fall season like this:
Can be followed later by my street looking like this:
We are a couple of weeks from early snow, so all of the winter prep is now almost complete.Been a busy week .
First of all, snow tires and rims for the cars that will be used here in winter:
The dog's car gets slightly smaller rims and full Pirelli snows:
the Panamera also drops down a size and gets higher profile snows. Service person told me I am down to 30% front brakes so a $3700 job in the Spring is booked.
Preparing for winter...aargh
The 992 is new so no service, but plugging in the Ctek is a bit of a pain. Under the hood is just a blank cover. this is in two pieces and to get to the battery you need to dig your fingers under the front panel and pull it away from the retainer clips. I was worried about breaking the clips so brought it down to the dealer who had a bit of an effort to pull it off. Removing the second panel just over the battery is no problem.
Since I was putting the car in commercial storage I left the rear panel off saw I was driving it directly to storage. Bye for winter 992! The AutoVault is quite a cool place whic I will photograph one day..hundreds of cars stored there:

Dropped the 997 in for a pre-winter check and assessment of wheel damage. Last week a drugged-out person ran into the street in front of me I was in the city so not travelling quickly but I had t swerve sharply and hit a kerb which trashed a rear wheel. A replacement wheel is a cool $4900 ( Canadian dollars folks) and I will replace all tires - all to done in the Spring.
While the Canada cars go into the deep freeze the Arizona cars come out of the oven. I am fairly apprehensive about how they will do after seven months in the garage at 120 degrees. I use tire cradles to avoid flat spots, but heat does some strange things. I had to get a new wiring harness for the SL ( which I have had from new) and the plastic trim cracked like an eggshell from the heat. No idea what I will find now. The Jeep is a simple old thing and cheap to fix but it will have some problem as usual.
I will drive the dog down for her winter vacation in December and leave the Pana there also until I get back later- if it needs brakes by then I will do it at the local Porsche dealer.

You are removing your vehicles from tire cradles and I just mounted one of vehicles on them. Seems like " Weather " is the hand that rocks the cradle, ha. Leaving Cold Canada for Arid Arizona sounds pretty good to some of us in the Midwest, as a low of 25 degrees is going to cover the stubble in the cornfields of Nebraska this evening!
Do you track any of your Porsches down in cactus land this coming Winter?

I thought about it ; I have a trailer which I have used in the past to bring the SL back and forth but we had a bit of trouble with stuff being stolen off the trailer at night, and bright coloured cars might not be there wisest thing to park at a motel>)...

Oh, cmon RD, just fill the Cayenne with Molson ( or in my case Crown Royal ) and you can stop at various Carpokes places along the way to keep the brightly colored beasts safe. Then you could hit the multitude of tracks down in the land of Cacti!
