I've seen this recall, which's says only 20 engines are affected....
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3606 ... er-recall/
In the meantime, I've talked to 2 people locally who had their 718 Spyder engines replaced under warranty, and have had I think 2 license plate mount buyers say their engines were replaced. Is there more going on than that recall article suggests or have I just come across a good percentage of those affected?
Engine recall question...

Hey Tom,
There were approximately 1,000 GT4 & Spyder's built in the first quarter this year that had defective connecting rods. Depending on where you reside, Porsche rebuilt the new engines or installed a complete brand new factory engine at the port or dealership. US cars received new engines, 8yr warranty, and a discount voucher.

Thanks Dan, given that I've come across 4 or 5 with replaced motors, without looking, your numbers sound more accurate than that article claiming only 20 delivered cars were affected... Maybe that was just wishful thinking when they discovered the issue? Or did they continue to build them with the bad rods? If someone were to order today (and wait it out), is the community fairly confident the issue's been fixed going forward? I'm not a convertible guy per se, and already have my dream Porsche, but every time I see a Spyder in the wild, I can't help but think it's next-level good looking and one for the ages...hence my curiosity about the motor.OT-Dan wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 8:39 am Hey Tom,

I believe there were 176 US cars impacted by the recall. Very few cars were delivered and they were immediately recalled back to Porsche dealers. All of the engines should be replaced by the end of the month. Porsche quality quickly identified a small production run of con rods that did not meet spec. The 8 year unlimited mileage engine warranty makes this a non issue.

Cool. I agree about the warranty and new motor by the way. It's one thing to replace a motor on an old car where parts are worn, etc., but on a brand new car, it really can/should be like brand new again. My brother bought a new F150 in 2006. Shortly after getting it, they discovered some internal failure common to the motor. They put in a brand new motor under warranty and gave him some crazy-long warranty, and he's never had a single problem with it after something like 150k miles....OT-Dan wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:36 am I believe there were 176 US cars impacted by the recall. There were 196 cars that was part of the stop sale in the US. According the the VIN numbers my GTS was number 26. I received the call on March 17th and was scheduled to take delivery on March 26th at PECATL. Porsche did pay for me to do a "mock" delivery with the car I ordered. Long story short, I did not take delivery of that car and ordered a second GTS. I did receive all of the incentives except for the 8 year warranty on the engine.

I just test drove my engine-replaced Spyder today at the dealership. Nothing but pure bliss thus far. Engine was smooth and very responsive. Completed the transaction and had the dealership store it away. Awaiting for the installation of the Kline FBO on the 3rd week of September. If I waited 6 months to have this car, what's another several weeks to get tit with the exhaust sound that I lust for

Sorry my bad. I forgot to turn off guest posting on this board so you probably just posted without logging in. Very glad you pointed this out, thank you! Otherwise, sadly, spambots will start posting gibberish and links endlessly. Ask me how I know...
I waited over a month to drive my 992tts as it waited for PPF... Those were long days but worth getting the car just the way you want it. Did you see @kitw 's video of the Kline exhaust? Sounded pretty darn good...
