Ok, since this forum is full of guys who can figure out smarter ways of doing things:
Has anyone come up with a way to change the oil filter without having oil spill everywhere down the engine compartment?

Short of changing the oil in outer space, the best solution I've used is to put your hand inside a plastic bag, reach down and grab the filter through the bag, then push the bag down around the filter so that you can unspin the filter with the bag over it and turn it over with the bag before pulling it up and out. More art than science, as I've done that with perfect success and perfect failure. Some folks also punch a hole in the top of the filter and let it sit/drain a bit before pulling it out. I tried that once and it didn't seem to help all that much, but maybe the hole was too small and my patience too short...
But now you have me thinking.... It would be cool to come up with the ultimate fool-proof solution. Thinking....

The solution that I like, but have not implemented, is these guys (no affiliation): https://www.cantonracingproducts.com/ca ... lters.html
Sort of spendy but I love the machined parts.

That's how my truck is. Very easy. Pop off the top, swap out the cartridge, and your done. Still mulling over the stock set up for the 944 though.... It's an oddly non-German-engineering thing on these cars...
