Hey Tom,
You nailed it! I can call the local Porsche dealership parts department tomorrow and see if the 718 and the 911 have the same sports chrono part number. I have a feeling that Porsche would just make one sports chrono but I could be wrong. Which year and model number is the 911 that you fabricated the bezel for?

Go for it. Mine is a '21 992 Turbo S. If you look at the 718 pictures posted online, it "looks" like the bezel has a rounded (domed) front profile, whereas mine is flat with a steep chamfer. Your suspicion is totally logical though, so maybe they changed at some model year, or maybe it's just an optical illusion in the pictures...?

I could also just print a shell of my current model and send to you unpainted. If it fits, awesome. If not, no big loss....

I actually haven’t received my car yet. It’s being produced this month. I’ve been collecting various accessories and reading every review that I can. I’m getting a Cayman GTS 4.0 in GT Silver with a black leather interior, deviated chalk stitching and chalk seatbelts. While configuring the car online, I Immediately noticed that the chrome colored bezel looks a bit cheap for a 100k + car. I’ll probably do black or chalk.

Tomorrow, I’ll do some investigation about the sports chrono.
Thanks,
Larry

Going from black to red on my car, this question didn't matter, but we'd need to know how far back the chrome goes to make sure we cover it all? Any idea?

I don’t but I’m going to go to Beverly Hills Porsche tomorrow and try to get some information. I just noticed that your sports chrono seems to be just a stop watch while the 718 is a stop watch and a digital / analog clock. I’ll try to find out if the dimensions are the same.

It grabs the gauge tightly now, and looks good to me. Opinions/suggestion welcome though! I also got out a can of red high-gloss Rustoleum just to see what that might look like. I have to say I kind of like it. Only a diehard would know it isn't a factory option. :)

Here is the raw shell as printed by the Form 3. It's printed at 1/20th of a mm per layer, so looks like a molded part to the naked eye.

Color inspiration. Not an exact match, but close enough for a non-adjacent part....

I'm kind of feeling it....

Looks like they shipped it this way. :)

Simply amazing, once you have the 718 versions ready, I’ve got to have one ready for my Miami Blue car. :-)

Last night I looked at the sports chrono, on the Porsche configurator, for the 992 Turbo S, the new 992 GTS, and the base 911. I also looked at the chrono for the 718, Macan, Panamara, and Taycan. The 992 Turbo S has a unique chrono. The Panamara and Taycan have the same one as the base 911. The Macan has a compass instead of a clock / stopwatch. All the 718s are the same but different from all the other ones. From the configurator photos, I’m almost positive that the 718 bezel is different from the 992 Turbo S. Unfortunately, the only way to fabricate a 718 bezel cover is to have a local 718 owner come by your place.

FWIW, I also went by the Beverly Hills Porsche parts department. Each chrono has a unique part number. They were unable to provide me with schematic drawings.

Short answer - I think that your beautiful, fabricated bezel cover will probably only fit 992 Turbo chronos. If you are able to make bezel covers for 718s or non-turbo 992s, they will be fit many other cars.

I had a cars and coffee at my house last weekend. It would have been so easy to check 718 v 992, etc. :( At any rate, I'm sure the gauge itself may be different between the 992 and 992 Turbo S, but are you sure the enclosure/bezel is different? In the pictures I've been seeing, they look the same?

As for the 718, if you wanted to try to come up with a design remotely, I'm game. We did these much more complicated speaker bracket over the internet:

Assuming your bezel looks like the one in the picture below, maybe we start with these three questions if you're game...

My car is being built in September with a port eta of Nov 19th. As soon as I get the car I’ll take all the measurements. If I see a 718 at my local dealer before then I’ll come up with some excuse to measure the bezel. Thanks for all your help. I’ve been retired for almost 10 years and I love getting into the weeds with car stuff. My wife calls it OCD.🤔

How many times do you need to tell me that before I remember? Maybe some other kind soul will answer. :)

Retirement, Porsches, and obsessive behavior go hand-in-hand. I did this video of/for Crazy Eddie a few years ago.
