That does totally suck, but hey, your sunroof will be good to go for a good long while now!Tom wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:04 pmYeah, this sunroof is ending up costing me. But the factory latches were about $150 each, and I didn't want to replace one only to have the other disintegrate next weekDarwin wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:00 pm I've seen them online before, but have never seen them installed. They do look really nice, and hopefully quality can justify that price! I'll be interested to see how you like them!So I the Rennline ones were actually cheaper and -- I hope -- much stronger in the long run....

Finally, success! For the first time in ages, the sunroof makes no noise. I replaced the latches with the Rennline metal versions, which I'd say are a solid upgrade vs the brittle factory plastic pieces. I didn't read the fine print either, so didn't realize the $125 kit comes with two latches! So, it's even more of a bargain than I thought. $125 for two metal latches vs. $150 for a single plastic latch from Porsche. It's a no brainer unless you really need to keep it stock. They install in about a minute. Three little screws per side. I opted to reuse the factory screws since they are black, and the Rennline kit came with shiny (SS?) screws.
HOWEVER, it turned out that none of my broken hardware was causing the creak. It still creaked after all the broken bits were replaces. After investigating yet more, I finally concluded that the creak was coming from where the sunroof and body were rubbing against each other. I could even see where some of the weather-stripping had rubbed smooth on the sunroof. So, I ended up using Krytox PTFE lubricant on the hard weather stripping trim and in the channel in the roof. As soon as I did that, the sunroof immediately stopped making noise -- not a single peep or creak. I learned about Krytox from my dealer when my 991 was rattling/creaking like crazy. He said the techs use it on just about everything to eliminate noises like this, especially on the luxury 4-doors where people complain about every little sound... At any rate, super happy to have it creak-free for the first time in probably 5 years!
