Hello,
I'm looking for feedback from anyone that has installed solid aluminum torsion tube carrier parts in place of factory metal/rubber parts, items #6 and #12 in the PET image. I'm specifically interested in any perceived increase in noise, harshness, and vibration. I have Racer's Edge spherical bearings for the item #4 trailing arm so might consider also installing the solid torsion tube carrier mounts when I do the suspension on the 951. Thanks.

No experience with that part sorry, but I can tell you I tried a 'semi-solid' transmission mount and it was crazy loud for a street car. I'd imagine those parts don't transmit as much noise, but I'd be pretty cautious on a street car. What's the motivation to change them?

No real motivation to change them other than I will be dropping the torsion tube sometime in the future and was just thinking/planning ahead if this is something that makes sense. New Porsche parts are crazy expensive, like more than $800 to replace these four mounts. Billet aluminum is about one-half that price. I don't have any idea if these wear-out or not due to aging of the rubber, which is why I'm looking for feedback.

I have no experience either with those mounts but I would expect making them solid would cause a lot of vibration and harshness issues. To me the driveline in my 944 feels very rubbery and dampened compared to my other cars and I suspect Porsche set it up that way on purpose.

I tried the Racers Edge solid replacement for the #12 bushing and I didn't like it on my street car. It made no difference in vibration-type noises. The main drawback was that it transmitted a loud thump sound whenever I hit a large bump or any sharp edged bump, such as the lip on a driveway entrance.

I've been looking at going solid on those parts for some time. From what I've read they are streetable. I can tell you that part #12 was solid on the 944 Turbo Cup cars and made from cast aluminium.

I can understand the thumping sounds as my S2 has Racer's Edge spherical camber plates up front and the Koni 3012s in the rear have spherical mounts. I don't notice any issues with vibration but with my 18" wheels and tires you do get impact noise. If you'd like to try them out I have a pair for sale that I'll sell at a good price.
