I would like to know what other Porsche rotors and calipers would fit my 1986 951 ? Before I upgrade the turbo, ecu and exhaust I want to be sure the car stops. I have 18 inch wheels on the car now so clearance should not be an issue. Where would be the best place to look for a cross reference of brake parts ?
Thanks
Don

This is on my summer list, although I may convert to the late-offset front suspension parts while I'm at it. @Latitude48 was a brake upgrade guru back in the day. Maybe he'll dust off his notes and school us a little.Don_Cote wrote: Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:54 am I would like to know what other Porsche rotors and calipers would fit my 1986 951 ? Thanks for the plug Tom, but I don't really know what the options are for early offset cars other than the kits sold by Lindsey Racing. Both my cars have M030 spindles, which limit the options. The S2 has 928 GTS Big Black calipers that I had powder coated red, along with the stock rears. I use the 911 C2 Turbo 1-piece "drilled" front rotors and matching 968 M030 rear rotors. I have a new set of GTS front and S2/968 rear calipers I'm planning to install on the 951 when it gets its suspension upgrade. Prices on brake calipers have really gone up; I was fortunate to buy the new calipers a few years ago when Sunset had a 20% Black Friday sale.Tom wrote: Mon Apr 11, 2022 8:28 pmThis is on my summer list, although I may convert to the late-offset front suspension parts while I'm at it. @Latitude48 was a brake upgrade guru back in the day. Aren't the stock '86 spindles a weak point in the suspension?

Simple answer is…nothing! 86 was an odd offset, one year only. You can get special kits for it ( not cheap) but you could also consider changing to later (87+) offset. Much better choice of wheels, better rotors and easier brake upgrades
Hello, i went with 87+ spindles, 996TT calipers and 996 gt3 front discs with an adapter.
The 86 spindles are weak if you want to track with slicks etc.

Hey ealoken is here!! Welcome aboard! We've been waiting for you.
Do the 996TT brakes fit under any of the factory 951 wheels? Do they have as much (or more) stopping power than the Big Reds (Big Blacks) from the 928GTS?

Looking at your picture it appears the 996TT calipers don't have the depth to completely cover the GT3 rotors, so whatever adapters you used places them at the outer edge so you gain swept area vs 996TT rotors? If so, then you should have more "stopping power" as Tom put it compared to big red/black calipers and rotors.ealoken wrote: Mon Apr 18, 2022 1:06 am Hello, i went with 87+ spindles, 996TT calipers and 996 gt3 front discs with an adapter.

The 996TT is 330mm vs 350mm on the gt3 discs.Latitude48 wrote: Mon Apr 18, 2022 10:16 amLooking at your picture it appears the 996TT calipers don't have the depth to completely cover the GT3 rotors, so whatever adapters you used places them at the outer edge so you gain swept area vs 996TT rotors? If they don't hold up, I'm switching to 997calipers, Giro disc and ebc rpx pads.
The oem 951 brakes did not survive track days, even with big cooling and full race pads.

Big Reds were the answer for years....until Porsche tripled the price! Used to buy new Big Reds from Porsche for $250 each....
