Still fine-tuning this idea, but thought I'd post a teaser....

Um.......a new joint venture with Crazy Eddie?

That's great! Certainly a vast improvement over the Braun shaver shifter. :shifty:  Assume you will modify shift pattern from manual to PDK?

What model is that shifter from? 991,2? I was looking at the PDK gear changer in the new GT4 RS. I was wondering if that cool shifter could be transplanted into other 718’s or even a 992?

Agreed. And, the GT3 shifter as well. Although they might be much more difficult to source at this time.

That shifter is cheap-o special from Amazon. I also ordered a cheap boot, but I'm still waiting for that. I modeled a little adapter thingie and printed it on a cheap/fast FDM printer so as not to waste time and money on the fancy printer (bezel-mania has that one humming anyway). To my surprise, the first one off the printer wasn't such a bad fit, and didn't look half bad without a boot, so I posted it here for reaction. Only issue with adding a boot is the lack of space really. The Park button is pretty close to the shifter nub, so a boot might look chopped in half, but we'll see.

My thought was to mock it up with cheapo parts first to see if it might be worth the effort, before getting real shifter knobs and/or spinning up @Crazy Eddie for yet another project. (He 'claims' to be busy, blah, blah.... ;) ) I sent him a picture of this last night and he didn't realize what I was trying to show him, so at least it doesn't jump out as obviously wrong. :) I'm reasonably sure the whole shifter boot assembly can just nest onto the nub and surrounding area without any tools, modifications, fasteners, adhesive, etc. If not, at least it keeps me busy while waiting for bezel paint to dry. ;)

What's a good shifter knob for a faux manual 992 Turbo S?? I suspect the factory faux shifters will be cost prohibitive if you can even get them? (And who knows how they might attach....?)

It's our secret for now. If/once I refine it into something Porsche worthy, this one probably won't be a give-away (Carpokes Champions excepted).

I wasn't a fan of the PDK shifter on my 992 C2S. I think there are a lot of people out there who hate it or are trying to convince themselves that they are ok with it so there could be a lot of demand for something like this.

I ordered my new GTS in manual so I won't have it this time. I wonder if they'll eventually switch to the type of auto gear stick in the GT3. Maybe with the 992.2 whenever that comes out.

There's definitely a large market for what you're putting together.

There may be a few ways to do this.

The way you've mocked it up, that could give people a more traditional looking shifter and maybe for those people who don't want to admit they have a problem, a leather/alcantara deviated stitched cover that makes it more substantial without necessarily changing the general shape but covering the shaver look of it.

Could incorporate color matched material at the top like you're doing for the bezels.

In fact, that whole shifter area of the PDK could be leather wrapped with a gap for the shifter buttons.

Good thoughts and totally agree. I'll just need to start playing around with options. I little leather nub-cover, without more, could be a Crazy Eddie thing for sure....

p.s., you and Hawk have the same avatar (what are the odds) so didn't realize who this was at first.... :)

Hawk has the much cooler GT3. Mine's just the GTS. Hoping to rise to the top of a GT3 Touring list sometime soon but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'll have to change mine up a bit so it's a bit more obvious that they're not the same.

You need to look very carefully to see the different front facias, hood, and the wing on the GT3. Oh....and can't you see that my wheels have the shark blue ring around them? lmao

Tom, in all seriousness, I agree with @murphsea - there would be a large market for this among 992 owners. I "HATED" the shaver shifter on my 992. I loved the car, and miss it since I pre-traded against the GT3, however, I do not miss that shifter. There is not one 992 owner that loves that thing. I'm certain that they would be willing to pony up Porsche dollars for what you are in the process of developing, if that is of any interest to you.
