It’s a great bit of information I never knew about

“Per Porsche TSB Group 4, Number 9303, 968 type caster blocks are required when running 17" wheels. The TSB also says to use new eccentrics and nuts.”

So I copied this link with a picture also. I have had Elephant racing castor blocks so I never searched for them. However as I am building Soloracer’s white 89 turbo his need replacement since they are original stock parts.

I’ve seen a lot of people argue about this. I don’t think you can get anything but the 968 stole from Porsche anymore anyways. I upgraded mine when going with my 18s.

the TSB referenced has been floating around the internet for a while but it was harder for me to find it than I thought it was going to be. The 968 castor blocks are a great upgrade no matter the wheel and tyre size.

That price from ECS is a bit rough! it's only $100 direct from Porsche. Or, get the Elephant Racing version for $40 each like the OP has.

They are 160.00$ at elephant racing
Or 98.00 for sport hardness

The 40.00$ ones are for steel control arms

When I first got my car in the 90's, they were still new enough that those TSB's would create quite a buzz. That one about the castor blocks and the one below about 18" wheels were all the buzz....

Retrofitting 18" wheels on Porsche vehicles which do not have 18" wheels as original equipment is NOT ALLOWED.

General Information:
Endurance tests have shown that equipping certain Porsche vehicles with 18" wheels in an application not already approved by Porsche Cars, N.A. may result in loosened bolts and/or threaded connections on the front wheel carriers. This, in turn, may cause fractures in these components. Fractures may also occur in the front strut mounts and in the body in the area of the rear suspension as a result of the installation of 18" wheels not already approved for installation for this specific application.

Such damage can occur without warning and the vehicle may become very hard to control or steer as a result of this improper installation.

Porsche dealer personnel coming in contact with a vehicle that has been retrofitted with 18" wheels in an application not approved by Porsche, should inform the owner of the vehicle of the potential for damage to their vehicle and loss of steering control. Porsche Cars, N.A. should also be notified of any vehicles retrofitted with 18" wheels.

It really only caught my attention due to me needing to replace this for Erik’s car.

I recently replaced the caster blocks on my 951. The 968 ones fit and works perfect.

What exactly is the difference between them from a design and engineering perspective?
Pretty sure they've never been touched on the S2, and I have those 16x8et49 BBS RS 158's on it, pretty sure they weigh more than D90's would. Might be worthwhile?
