968 tiptronic question

I noticed this gap (see photo) when taking off the starter/installing the flywheel clamp when preparing for the timing belt job. Should there be some type of dust cover/plate?

There's usually a small metal shield to keep debris out.

Thank you for the part number and image from PET. After seeing this I went to BaT to see what photos might show. I took a screenshot of the attached photo that shows a shield. Interesting on how it attaches with 2 bolts on the side.

Thats interesting I didnt think the 968 had the flywheel notch for TDC. I thought instead they had a hole that needs to be looked through to identify TDC. Any chance its an S2 block?

The notch is on the flex plate adapter (bell housing) on the transmission side of the engine. There wasn’t a clear mark I could see at the inspection hole at the back of the engine. I took out spark plug #1 to confirm the camshaft mark before I raised the car and saw the adapter alignment with the notch in the adapter.
