What could have caused this, and other fun stuff from my first oil change

What a bummer of a couple of days.

Decided to do my first oil change, roughly 3500 miles and one track day after I bought the car. The oil change itself was pretty unremarkable, but I found some damage to the CV cover. I tried to tighten the band just a bit as I'm planning on rebuilding both axles in the near future, and the inner band just came off. I then realized that the housing was bent pretty badly, see pics.

What would even cause this? I don't see any other damage under there.

Then more inspecting and I see this.

Not sure what this is, it's attached/near the turbo.

Finally, when inspecting the oil filter element, I noticed metal flakes. Not a huge amount, but there.

Feeling like crap, mostly about the metal flakes, the other stuff I can easily deal with.

EDIT to add that I pulled a sample for UOA. Wish me luck.

The dealer changed the oil in my 992 and let me hang out and watch and chat as they did it. When they got the filter out, he pulled the paper element out and spread it open and it looked like somebody rolled it in silver and gold glitter. He told me it would look like that, but it was pretty shocking to see. That was also the first oil change, so presumably it gets better over time. So... all is not lost. Maybe do one of those oil analysis tests? Do you have a picture of the metal flakes?

As for the CV joint -- a rock or something must have gotten caught in there, no? Can't think of anything else likely to do that, unless it was installed that way....

Regarding CV boots, several of us have had heat issues as you know from previous posts that you responded to, but I have never seen a bent housing as in your picture. I cannot even think how something like that would happen. Maybe J-Dub will have some thoughts on this.

Apologies Tom, I should have stated that this is a 2018 Cayman GTS with about 50k miles on the clock. I wish it was the first oil service but it’s had a few. Car was only dealer serviced before I bought it.

I think I might have figured out what caused the damage to the cap. I visited the servicing dealer after I bought the car and the SA told me the previous owner brought it in to have the factory PASM struts put back on after having an aftermarket suspension. I bet the tech moved the axle past where it should move and bent the cap. It’s a $7 part on its own and not very sturdy.

Glad a probable cause was found. As others have stated, a curious defect to find (aka "What the......how did that happen"). All the best in getting it fixed and up and running.

Update: Was able to successfully get a new OEM band to clamp and hold while I wait for replacement parts.

I have bent one of those inner CV caps, ran it dented like that for a year. Replaced it when I changed out all of the boots.

The inner cap and boot are available as an assembly. I could likely find the part numbers from my order history if you need them.

Thanks, I found the assembly and it’s on order. Called Porsche Chandler and the parts guy was listing all the parts individually and was coming up over $200 and I’m like can you check if it’s the same as the $80 kit. It was.

@J-Dub Curious as to how you bent yours? There is no other signs of damage on that side of the car.
