Touch Time for head R&R

I am trying to figure out an estimate of touch time labor to recover from a failed timing belt. I have not had much time to do the job yet and am considering selling my 951 “As Is” to someone that would need to have a shop do the work for him. I figure the car is worth around 9-10k if fully running. It is an 86 with 2 piece crossover.
Thank you,
Lee

Hi Lee,

ALLdata (an industry-standard labor guide) quotes 13.2 hours for a valve job on a 944 Turbo, which is a good rule of thumb. This is assuming a like-new engine from which everything comes apart easily---the reality of a 38-year-old car is there may be snapped studs/bolts, crumbling hoses and wiring, and the various "while you're in there" jobs that may be needed, so estimate upwards from there.

Chris,
That really helps. I was figuring $3-4k to pay a shop. Of course most of the shops around here work on the old air cooled or newer models.
Thanks,
Lee
