i have the luck to own a 924, coming from an old man garden, in wich it was stocked for 22 years like that, after 10 years running juste on idle speed.
The second luck is that i have had it for free ! The deal is to take him for a road trip day with it when it's finished !
Let show you how i found it As you can see, all the interior has to be done at new. It's full of moss and all plastics are cracked, moist, etc...
The body frame is in a partial good state. A lot has to be done. Multiple bumps and scratch, and a windshield to replace.
I couldn't see the engine because the cable to open it was stuck. But for a free car, how could i be demanding...

Time to bring back home the beast !
I plan the things to do. First : Engine. 2nd : Brakes and suspensions. 3rd : body frame. 4th : Interior.
So first thing to do, engine restoration !
I begin by cutting the hood cable, and thank you Porsche, there is a LOOOOT of space to take it. And that's a lot of dirt, leaves, nuts.... But it's in a pretty good shape for a 20years no running. I was waiting for a bigger deal.
So lets take off everything around the engine (cooling system, air intake...), and clean up every part a little bit each time i get it in my hands. (some less work to do then) Some corosion in the 2nd intake, but not a big deal after a quick clean.
the coolant is become grease with time (i could put it in any bearing balls ). I was scared to discover a head gasket failure.
So let's take off the cylinder head ! And.... Well.... We can see that it haven't runned correctly for a long time... In France we have a web site, wich relate every technical control and accident. It says about this car, that the odometer hasn't change from 1995 to 2002. But it passed the control every 2 years.
My conclusion is that the last owner just let the engine warm, and stoped it, without runing it on the road. That should be the reason for all that nasty things in cylinders.
But well, it's the game ! I'm here to restore it fully ! So let's roll up one’s sleeves !
We can see some small problem of lubricant on camshaft. I think it's just because it didn't run often enought, and it has to start on dry pads. Not a big deal, a small sanding with a very fine grain should do the job correctly.

It looks like it is sitting very close to the ground. If it has been that close to the ground for all those dormant years, you might want to see if there is any major corrosion and rust in the floors and undercarriage.

I have a video, dont know if i can put it, but it's in an incredible shape ! No ruste, or near ! lol
Only the battery floor is, i think, completly dead. There is a big layer of something... don't know what. But it's not waterproof anymore. That would explain the moss inside

Hello all !
Today I have a big surprise ! I have taken off the valves... What a deception to find 2 cracks
From the sparks to the valve seat, 2 are cracked... I'm going to have to ask for a quote before to engage any work on the cylinder head. Maybe it'll be cheaper to change for another one...
I have found a french guy, next to my town, who produce new valves, for 200€ the 8. With that, i want to change the springs, valve seats, valve guides, and a big cleaning. I'll surely be at a 1000€ just for this cylinder head.
I'll think about it a little bit during the next weeks before working on it anymore.

Hey all ! Make a long time since I last posted !
Well, I have add a LOOOOOT of work but now i can finaly breath a little bit !
I take back my work on my 924 !
I took my cylinder head to a society next to me, and it's finaly going to be cheaper to buy a brand new cylinder head (665€ in France; 727USD) I'm gonna need to find a new camshaft and valves and rebuild this engine for a full brand new one
It may be a bad news, but i think about that moment i'll be replacing everything in place in the car, and everything will shine and look clean and new
