Any word on whether that mount will work on all 4 tweeters? With luck, I can start printing the finals on Tuesday or Wednesday....

Hey guys,

Figured I would throw my hat in the ring and show a similar project I am working on.

One of my tweeters went bad, finding an OEM replacement proved impossible. After going down a few rabbit holes I decided I would design a new bracket to fit a modern tweeter into the front door panels of my 490 spec-ed 944t.

I have opted to use Dayton Audio AMT Mini-8 Air Motion Transformer Tweeter 8 Ohm as a replacement high-frequency speaker. ( https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Au ... er-275-095 ). I have spoken to a few knowledgeable audio professionals and this speaker comes with excellent reviews.

A goal of this design is to have the tweeter sit flush with the mounting bracket without modifying the original Porsche grill. The attached photos of this design are from the first prototype, however, I do plan to make the files/the bracket available to fellow 944 enthusiasts in some form once I have perfected the design. I am shooting for a plug-and-play solution!

Big thanks to Tom for introducing me to Car Pokes!

Looking good! Why the rectangular cut out like that? Also, how did you get 59.738mm for the hole-to-hole measurement? I printed it at 60, and Darwin said to move it in .5mm (to 59.5), so we're clearly in the same range, but curious how you got such a specific number?

Looking at the tweeter, it looks like the square cutout is for the electrical connections on the back, although I don't see any holes for the mounting studs.

I found an affordable tweeter with decent reviews that I can source locally. I'm not crazy about car audio, I just wanted a functional system back so that if I wanted, I could at least hear music. Honestly, so far, the stock system is pretty good for me, which is why I'm not trying to change it at all.

Tom,

I did manage to get the door card off today (sorry for the delay, you know why) and texted you some pictures, but for continuity I'll also post here for all to see.

Here is the "factory" tweeter (I removed the guts as I was going to use it as a makeshift mount)

What I was thinking to make it work for the front, was to remove the areas in black shown here (IE make flush with the recess beneath them)

And also adjust the mounting tabs lower by 4mm. This will allow the tweeter to sit flush with door card similar to the original, and not interfere with the speaker grill.

Those two changes, along with hole to hole length of 59.5mm, would make the bracket work perfect for the front!

Tom has been amazing helping me design these, and I can't express enough gratitude!

The oddly specific number is just the result of the inches to mm conversion. I had found the tweeter's dimensions on a thread somewhere in inches and converted them into mm. The rectangular hole is to allow room for the protruding speaker terminals. The new tweeter also has some cylindrical studs that I plan to dremel flush in order to install.

There is considerable room behind the tweeter for the studs, any specific reason why you will remove them? How will you hold the tweeter in the mounting bracket? Adhesive?

If there is room I will definitely amend the design to use the studs to fasten the speaker. I kind of threw that sketch up from memory as I’m out of state and unable to reference the car or the tweeter. I was planning to use some hot glue should I cut the studs.

The website lists the depth at .91". so long as that includes those studs, it should fit without any problems. If you want/need I can check depth of the area for you. I currently have my door card off and tweeter removed.

Appreciate the offer!

I already made several adjustments to my CAD based on the original drawing you made for Tom. I’ll definitely let you know if I need anything else. :D

As for the tweeter‘s depth, I found this schematic online. This seems more detailed than the distributor's information. The more comprehensive drawings show a depth of 10.5 mm. So I ended up using that information.

Darwin, can you give me a safe measurement for this distance?
