Are those uprights from a 935 Michael? They look pretty bespoke.michaelmount123 wrote: Wed Feb 07, 2024 2:21 pm 72896029326__27F9FF21-CC6E-45B8-9008-BA076D51A1DD.JPEG72896033266__1AFF6D29-CAE9-4711-85A1-1CCD9A8BB5C5.JPEGIMG_4225.JPEGSuspension going back on, but still waiting for Penske to rebuild shocks. Interesting fabricated uprights, eh?
The Hewland trans shifting is all mechanical; no engine cut for shifts. I would always stab the clutch for upshifts, but all that's needed is a quick pause on the throttle and the next gear can be found. The clutch is needed for downshifts. Shifter and linkage by Fabcar are excellent.
That's an interesting GTR in New Zed! I recognize it from my old PCA race days here in the US. The engine is no longer a GTR, but clearly much of the car is. The car belonged to Dick Howe and was prepared by Eric Barrett.
Project status....

No, they're not 935. My (educated) guess is they are Fabcar pieces fabricated in house. Fabcar would fabricate these since they didn't have Porsche's resources to cast uprights out of aluminum like on the 935 front corners.

They do look similar in design/build to uprights on the Fabcar built 962 we maintained at the shop I worked at during college.
Can kinda see them in the poor quality pictures below (nick named the fat lady as she was quite a pig compared to the 910 and RSK we also maintained):

Check this out:
Nice to see more video of the car. I have to say it's a bit of a shame that virtually every time they show it on the track it seems to be getting passed by cars that it should be faster than. However, it's great to get some insider info on it.

Not a lot to report. Clean-up and freshening the frame and corners is progressing, shocks came back from Penske, and new engine and chassis harness is under construction. The engine still sits on the dyno with latest tuning schedule is "next week" (again).

Ok I’m still confused about the gearbox.
I see the alternator seems to be driven off the axle flange, but what is that V-Belt that looks to be at the front of the gearbox? I don’t really see a pulley sized to fit but it does appear to be around some type of pulley behind the bell housing area, maybe even in a window of the torque tube???

Oh wait, it’s the power steering pump isn’t it? Looks like no pump on the engine and there’s a pump or something up top back there by the gearbox with an inlet line going to that polished reservoir. Is that correct? Power steering pump is back there too, driven off the torque tube??SirLapsalot wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2024 12:42 am Ok I’m still confused about the gearbox.

Always a sharp eye, SirLaps. Yes, it's a power steering pump driven off a pulley mounted on the layshaft of the gearbox. But no power steering on this boat. It's function is to circulate gear lube through a cooler mounted on the right side of the gearbox. I can't say why they used an external pump since the Hewland DGB can include an internal pump for that function. It's a minor mystery at this point.
By the way, SirLaps, I sure would have been thrilled to spend nights and weekends in that race shop when I was in college!
