That will be one a heck of a nice garage! Price tag maybe not so much but it will be worth it. It looks huge!DMRK wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 7:36 pm Some great garage spaces. Finally have some plans for what I want. Currently waiting on the contractor to see the price tag.

Thanks guys. It is rather large at 40' x 60' with 14' wall height. I have referred to it as the Garage Mahal. The loft is for storage, car parts and holiday decorations mostly so the garage can appear orderly and functional. I should know the price tag shortly.

Well Sultan of Stuttgart Sports Machines, I think Garage Mahal is appropriate , though depending on what you place there is could be Garage Macanhal, ha!

That looks like a great garage! I'm actually also planning out a renovation project with a newly built attached garage. Won't be nearly as big though.
I'm debating the size of everything. In the end, I want a functional working 1 car garage with a 2 post lift. Being a one car garage that will actually be used for the restoration of cars, it needs additional space for car tool cabinets, a car washing station, storage space for non-car items such as drills and garden tools, a garden mower (bigger one, mini tractor probably), and very importantly, the space to pull an engine out and getting it near the work bench to stand still for months on end without being in the way.
How big would you say a garage that fits those criteria would need to be?

Off the cuff, my $0.02 thoughts: I've always felt you a need two car garage to properly work on a single car so that you have enough space to swing both doors open without hitting anything. Add another single car bay as a wash station and be sure to take drainage into account. Then storage for yard work items, parts storage and space to pull and work on an engine and not disturb the car from which it was removed, add 50% to standard depth. Don't forget heat and cooling. If you are thinking a hoist, you could utilize the height for a small balcony for parts storage as well....but your first statement of wanting a functional working 1 car garage with a 2 post lift somewhat contradicts my suggestions.

Fully concur. Understanding that budget, buildable space, zoning restrictions and the like are often hard stops, I'd add that whatever size you determine would work, make it 25% or so larger if possible to allow for the unexpected. Completed projects like this are often followed by the inevitable "I should have ..."ROB III wrote: Sun Feb 09, 2025 2:36 pm Off the cuff, my $0.02 thoughts: I've always felt you a need two car garage to properly work on a single car so that you have enough space to swing both doors open without hitting anything. Based on the parameters you have set for your project, it sounds like you will have a two car garage in everything but the name. You want enough space to handle everything you've laid out, so why not just make it a two car? With a lift installed, I would think an extra bay is mandatory. The extra cost will be minimal over the area you've described. If for nothing else, if/when you decide to sell, it will be more desirable than a single car space.Belgian951 wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2025 10:23 am That looks like a great garage!
