With high zinc motor oils becoming harder and harder to find for our cars, wouldn’t it be easier and more beneficial to use a modern oil with a zinc supplement?

I believe there are several options of oils with the zinc needed. Not sure that’s an issue anymore.

General advice is to use the appropriate oil with additives needed vs adding additives or zinc on your own. As I understand it, the reason is because the oil is balanced for all of the additives included. So if you add more zinc it will throw the formula out of balance and you end up with additives fighting or negating each other. A few videos on YouTube explaining this.

Gotta look at the manufacturer info sheets, too. Mobile 1 15w-50 has over 1300 ppm of zinc (as of 2022) and is designed for flat tappet motors according to the manufacturer. It's also available pretty much everywhere and is pretty cheap.

Im very curious to try the Mobil 1. I use Valvoline VR-1 20w50 and it’s becoming increasingly hard to find in person out where I live
