After a few more events and lots of playing with shock valves and tire pressures I can definitely say that the car handles great. Body roll is respectable and the car feels planted firm. It darts in hard to a corner and just holds whatever angle you want. I have it balanced for a fun and predictable amount of oversteer if you just chuck it in. Thankfully the car's still perfectly comfortable for street driving and I don't even bother softening the shocks.
The car now corners hard enough that a seat mount started to rip from the floor pan. I assume this is mostly due to having broken the seat sliders loose with a scissor jack and sledge hammer. I beat the original tin foil back into shape, welded up the cracks, and added a 1/8" reinforcing plate.
Over Thanksgiving break I finally tackled the tattered seats. I used a reuphostery kit from Only944. I'm holding off doing carpet and back seats since a bit of water is still finding its way in. The hatch glass has definitely separated from the frame and I need to read up more on how to fix that.
