Starsky is a beautiful boy, but I am admittedly biased, since Huskies have been part of our family pack for over 35 years! Good on ya for adopting him, Tom! Ever since Game of Thrones, with its 'Direwolves', Huskies have suffered from what I call 'brain fade of the masses', who all capriciously decided they just HAD to have their own little Direwolf clones.

Huskies are, of course, VERY high maintenance pups, with goofy, whimsical personalities, selective intelligence (they manifest 'intelligence' only when it suits their whim), and inbred need for regular daily exercise of a level that exceeds the ability (or willingness) of too many to accommodate. Hence, a plethora of beautiful, deserving Huskies end up in the local animal control shelter each year. So many so that they end up at the top of the 'euthanise now' list, tragically, since there just aren't enough homes available for all dogs, let alone high energy pups like Sibes! We (wifie and I) have rescued Huskies through NorSled.org and other venues for three decades and since we have no hooman bean kids, they are our family just as much as any two-legged offspring would be. We've had Mals, too. Both breeds are quite different from each other, personality-wise, despite their startling visual similarities.

Tamaskan Dogs (a deliberately cross-bred match of Husky and German Shepherd) are supposed to be fantastic pups, since the Mendelevian genetics promote drop-out of most bad genes and bring good genes to the top of the mix, but Tamaskan Dogs are in short supply in America (and a bit more common in the UK, where the breed has many fanciers). Tamaskan Dogs typically have most of the whimsical personality traits of Sibes, but also have a Shepherd's ingrained sense of 'pack' loyalty (they won't meet a house-breaker at the door with the spare house-key and take him on a tour of the master's valuables, like most Sibes, LoL!) and can be far moire protective of their 'pack' than a typical Sibe.

Not to carry on at length here, but your Starsky is certainly a lucky boy and you are to be commended for saving him after your friend's untimely demise, by taking him in!

You certainly have good taste...both in cars and in canines! Iditarod, here I come! One of these days I'll tell you about the Iditarod Air Force, LoL, if you aren't already aware of it! The first image is of Nala, now discharged and retired on full IAF disability, LoL.

Here's an image of one of our more illustrious departed pack members, Maj. D.J. Muttley, USDAF, who racked up quite a record as an ace aviator. His hours logbook would make most humming bean aviators jealous. In this image he's wearing one of my old bone domes (an early 60s vintage P-4B). DJ was, like Tom Cruise, a born ham actor. All he needed was to see a camera appear and he would snap into a 'best-profile' photogenic pose. He also had a great voice and could serenade all the lady Huskies with his howls as good as the best Irish tenor. Really miss that big goof!

Excellent story Chris and great pic of your 'Nala". I'm sure that she is most deserving of her full retirement with all the benefits.

Just a note here to all the fellow COWPOKES doggie people! You all have wonderful pups! Given the natural attractiveness of Husky and Malamute doggies, whenever we take daily walkies passerby always comment on "Oh what beautiful dog!" I hasten to correct that impression by reminding them that ALL DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL, since looks are (as with people) only skin deep. The true measure of any living creature, hooman or canine, is that inner character and nature, which is what makes ALL good people and ALL dogs such invaluable hooman companions. Double kudos to those of you whose regard for your pups are such that you allow them to share the delight of sniffing the air in your prized P-car, as the two of you flash over the roadways! What a perfect combination: one's favorite Porsche and a favored pup to ride shotgun! Below is an image of my current Co-Pilot, Nala, who is now a VERY senior citizen of 17+ years (astounding longevity for a Husky dog!) and still wants to run a stage at the Iditarod, despite having lost an eye!

As famed author San Clemens so notably remarked, "If dogs don't go to Heaven, I want to go where THEY go when I die!"

Must be about 15-20 years ago, I think.

Great big Carpokes welcome to Nala. Our friends joke that they want to come back as Starsky -- suffice to say he is quite spoiled. :)
