Since the last episode...

All the odds and ends have been painted, and I think I have finally got the carb dialed in. Yesterday I installed the windshield, cabin bulkhead (freshly painted) and a driver's seat belt. Will start trying to make the hood reasonably straight and presentable next.

I saw one of these on the road yesterday and thought of you. They were cool SUVs before SUVs were cool. :) Love the flat windshield -- Lowes cuts glass to size, just say'n...

Yeah, but it's not laminated. This new one is.

Hood was straightened, reinforced, cracks in edges welded, then installed with hinge shims to adjust the fit. All rear spring bushings replaced. Top removed to ease access to plugging up the hole in the roof from a cheesy, leaking, and broken old sunroof. Final fitting and welding yet to come.

Looking good. I would have bet money that my friend's '74 bronco had a fiberglass top. Maybe I'm confusing that with another friend's old blazer...?

Factory tops from the beginning in '66 through '77 (end of 1st gen) were single wall steel. Later gen removable top sections were some sort of composite.

There may have been aftermarket 'glass tops available back in the day, but I haven't heard of any.

Taking shape! Looking forward to more progress updates but especially to the finished product. Have you decided on color combos yet?

Sky View Blue with Wimbledon White top, as shown on the build history.
