They just push into bottom opening where pin sits and the bottom bits splay out and lock it in place. These fixed hatch rattle I'd had since day one and make the car so much nicer on any drive. Probably the single best thing I have done for my car. Never realised how annoying the rattle was till it was gone

Ahh the splayed ends aren't that rigid.. got it. Yes, hatch rattle kills the mood real quick

Agreed -- this is high up on my list of best things I did on my car, at least weekend afternoon things... I have to say the single best bang for the buck/time thing I did (in all of 10 minutes) was to put Krytox on the sunroof weather-stripping. That thing had been creaking for years (!) --some days super loud-- and just a tiny smidge of Krytox worked like a miracle. When I get the dash back on, I'm going to put Krytox on the hatch rubber and everything else I can think of....

Krytox? Just looked it up. Silicone based, eh? Anything silicone gets a lotta bad reviews for other, unrelated problems. What's your take on the whole "never bring silicone near the car" thing?

And what ever happened to the 'ol talcum powder? lol

I've heard the no-silicon thing as it relates to glass sealing surfaces. At any rate, the Krytox I meant is silicon-free and designed to prevent vibration and creaking noises on interior parts that come in contact with each other. The dealer (Porsche) uses is all over the inside of the car, even on leather, and on weather stripping etc. Comes in liquid and goo form. This stuff:

Probably a great tip but having, what I think is the only non sunroof 86 turbo down under, not something I will be able to try
