I have his Sport DME as well. I got it when I was chasing a no-start/intermittent start issue a couple of years ago. i plan on upgrading to the OBD plus too. I am curious to hear your impressions on it. TIA!

So is it ok to post about innovation again?
I love what Joe is doing for the platform. I was a beta tester for the solid state relays and have just upgraded to the new version with diagnostic feature and his Fan relay with diagnostics as well. The DME going solid state and with OBD is a fantastic option and eliminates another potential unreliable area of our cars, and OBD holds great potential. Combine this with a kroon wiring harness and you'll have a very solid and reliable car. So many issues with these cars often come back to wiring or DME relay or DME itself, so this is a massive step forward for the community even if some think we don't need innovation, as you can't reinvent the wheel

The Kroon harness is nice.
However one thing they offer under tools is the 41 piece pin removal tool.
I just ordered the exact same 41 piece from Amazon.
I sent it back as it is utter garbage. Kroon doesn’t make the tool
I definitely do not recommend that one or any cheap tool
Digi-key Canada has one that is priced tolerable enough for me to buy
Might find find better deals in the US but shipping wise the Digi-key is my best option

The extraction tools like that digikey one, which have the plunger to push the pin out, are awesome. I have a few of those for other connectors. The problem with the one you linked is that it's for the Junior Power Timer connectors (like virtually everything else I can find). The JPT connector has two retaining tangs, so you'll see that tool has two little blades that slide down both sides of the JPT pins. Most of the factory connectors on the 944 are just Junior Timer style with only one retaining tang -- which means that extractor won't work right because we have only one slot for one extraction blade. I have not been able to find a plunger style extractor for the Junior Timer connectors on our cars, so instead just use a tiny flat blade screwdriver from an eye-glass repair kit. There's also the pin extractor tool like the one shown below, made by several companies, which has a blade (2 o'clock in the picture) that works ok too. The junior timer pins, fortunately, are pretty easy to get out -- paper clips, tiny screwdrivers, toothpicks, etc. have all been known to work.
What was wrong with the Amazon set? I've been tempted to pick one up since they purport to cover so many different connector types....?
The Amazon set was super flimsy.
Tools all bent with little to no pressure.
It’s been since 2009 last time I worked on removing pins from the DME harness in mass quantities.
I was hoping to find the single pin tool.
Some of my harness wires are new two pin….LR add on’s
I want to completely rebuild my harness and replace all the sleeves with a Techflex high temp protection sleeve.
Much easier to maintain and clean. Plus a cleaner more refined look. I can’t stand mesh sleeve as it’s terrible for holding dirt etc and tough to clean other than isopropyl alcohol spray bottle

Ah, in that case, you might want to just cut off the old pins and install Junior Power Timer Pins/Connectors everywhere other than the DME and KLR connectors. For the connectors under the hood, none of those pins will come out anyway since they are 'potted' (i.e., epoxied for life) in their connectors, and I suspect you'll quickly remember how easy it is to get the pins out of the DME and KLR connector once you find a suitable screwdriver or other little blade. I forgot to post the picture above, but most auto parts stores carry pin extractors like the one below, which also work find on the DME/KLR.

I was having this weird issue where the car would run and drive great for a good 15 minutes and as soon as the car would heat up....dead. The car would just shut down. I troubleshot it to death and the only thing I can come up with was bad solder joints potentially reflowing when the old DME was warm. When I let it sit over night the car would start again the next day lol. Swapped out to the Ftech9 DME and I never had the issue again. Excited for this OBD update, I'll have to send mine in.

The updated components on that board are great and the logical thing to do, but the fact that it is just brand new makes it appealing. The factory DME's are a great design, but they are just old and tend to show their age in any number of ways.Eric951Noel wrote: Fri May 20, 2022 5:06 am I was having this weird issue where the car would run and drive great for a good 15 minutes and as soon as the car would heat up....dead.
