Regular gas - 87 octane - $2.45 a gallon - Vallero

Premium Gas - 91 octane - $2.94 a gallon - Sam's Club

Racing Fuel - 100 octane - $12.99 a gallon - VP Fuel Road Atlanta
There is a caveat: GA has again suspended their state fuel taxes, as they did earlier this year when prices were much higher. Here in NE Alabama top tier Citgo is $2.75 for 87 octane
$2.95 for 89 octane
$3.35 for 93 octane
I have experimented with my Cayenne and found it runs just fine on regular, getting the same fuel mileage as on mid-grade or premium, and I can detect no appreciable loss of power. I'd never do this with my 718 GTS however.

I know of some Engineers from a certain Manufacturer who noted the computers on new cars will adjust the engine controls to not knock on low octane, but I will admit I wouldn't do that with my Cayman and likely would only go to a mid grade if necessary where Premium is not available for the Macan S. I do believe using Top Tier fuels is more important than some may believe, as it is a recommendation and formulation endorsed by virtually all automotive Manufacturers.

Yeah, top tier isn't just a marketing ploy, it really means something. And with all the direct injection systems in use now it's more important than ever, deposits being what they are on DI engines. I used to exclusively use mid grade in the Cayenne and wife's 540, but recently tried regular with no problems. Past Bimmers she drove also ran fine on regular. I do put a tankfull of premium in them every so often. We only have two top tier suppliers in my small town, Citgo and Marathon. All the majors are gone since I sold my Exxon/Unocal distributorship and my competator sold his Shell/Chevron business.

Nice to have an ex-petroleum business operator note that Top Tier is not a marketing ploy as so many seem to think it is. Definitely a plus for new engines and I am sure folks appreciate you posting your expertise Bama Bill !

Supposed to hit 52 today and Premium is down to $2.99 --------another good excuse to work on finishing the Cayman's 2000 mile break in period. Yes J-Dub , I have already hit redline a few times, but I am trying my best to be a good boy!
