Great writing with mentioning the facts about general cyl. Bore scoring that has plagued not only many of the modern Porsches, other manufactures have their share of the frustrations, as well!
About your pictures, they're far more useful and clear enough than many other people's pics. that I had seen before

Also thanks for that really well done you tube video on the 997 bore scoring and since I have seen that video before, I'm happy to say that yes, one the better narrator who keeps the viewer interested with his simple explanations, very focused & charming British accent, for sure.

Now, my original (the very first one) post with a curiosity question was about the "987.2" Boxster & Cayman (just like the 911's 997.2) engines that were completely redesigned to not only eliminated the dreaded IMS bearing issues and the Bore scoring and, to address a few other things, altogether.

nice story, just to add-when i change my oil on all my cars i capture a small amount of oil and send to Blackstone Labs. Been doing for years now on my 07S with 115k and 86 Carrera. so far so good but i sleep better at night knowing via science my motor is not shedding metals etc. you all probably do this anyway

Several I know have used Blackstone Labs and feel the same as you. I have been meaning to give it a whirl - eventually I will do it.

For a free lo-tech look-see, you can also inspect your oil filter. If something is really grinding away, you'll see glitter in the folds.
