I suppose a Durametrics tool might help and I know a mechanic who has one. My Foxwell was a no go. But I did discover I could enable daytime driving lights and make my side markers into turn signals, so the day wasn't a complete bust! Progress one small step at a time!
Looks like he has this unit from China. I assume it's a knock-off, but I don't know anything about it really.

There is a relatively cheap tool folks here have used to reset service lights and so forth, called the iCarSoft POR V2.0 (also a poorly documents Chinese unit). It's possible that unit has the Vehicle Handover function in it. Tagging @toddinmd, @Bill in Bama and @Stigs cousin -- they all have the iCarSoft, so maybe one of them can check and/or know if it does that. I'm sure a dealer could do it in short order too, assuming you have on nearby willing to do it....

Edit: glossed right over your friend having a Durametrics tool -- definitely worth a shot...
I'll have to check, but so far I've never seen anythabout vehicle handover on my iCarsoft scanner.

Stopped in there on Wed. and they are over 6 weeks out for appointments. I feel this is a ridiculously long wait for dealer service on a Porsche, VW or Audi. I don't know how they stay in business with that kind of service. Are the dealers this bad in California? Who would buy a car from a dealer who is unable to service it?
The service dept. at Fremont Porsche is seriously good. A lot of the Porsche diehards in the area buy cars from them primarily for their service department. I have purchased 2 new cars from them, and have gotten to know them over the years, but the way they treat me, you'd think I'd bought 200 cars from them. When I curbed my tire and had to have the car towed in from the coast on a Friday afternoon, I called them and they stayed late to make sure it would get inside for the weekend and not sit outside in their lot (they offered, I didn't even think of that). Another time, their best tech (super good guy and lurking Carpokean) came to my house on the weekend and road around in the back seat on the roads where my car rattled, since they could not reproduce the rattles on the smooth roads near their dealership.

I think it's just the luck of the draw though, not a CA thing. I know of at least one Carpokean in Southern California who hasn't had such stellar treatment from his dealer....

Not making excuses for your dealer, but with the hiring situation in much of the country right now it may be they don't have enough mechanics to do the work in a more timely manner. My dealer is out a couple of weeks for routine things, but always makes room for emergencies.

The iCarsoft scanner does not do coding. The Launch X431 is supposed to be able to do coding, not sure if it works or not. Durametric can do some coding. But to have everything a dealer has, the PIWIS clone. I've found the images out there, then you just need the gateway module. Some independent shops have real PIWIS devices. I'm local to TPC and Mike has one.
