Pre-trade USA?

Hey all,
I am on the list for an allocation for C2S, but I picked up a C2 in the meantime. I've seen a few people in a couple of forums mention pre-trade. I think I get the concept by the name, but I've never heard of any car dealer do this. Can some of you with experience in pre-trading tell me how it works, any terms, etc? Sounds like a lock in which would be great for when my car (ever) comes.

My dealer won’t do pretrade - Perimeter Porsche Atlanta.

Maybe because in Georgia the Ad Valorum (sales tax) is determined and paid on the difference in new car MSRP and trade in value of the old car. Georgia may have a limitation on how long this exchange can take to get the tax benefit.

BTW I have a cabriolet on order but it won’t arrive until November so a pretrade for me would have been 6 months without my 992.

Ahh so you have to actually trade in early. Didn’t get that part. I thought it was just an agreement to trade in once car arrives, under certain terms. Interesting.

You've got it. Some people have, I guess, had success with a pre-trade, but I can't see the sense of it.

Last year my dealership wanted to buy my 991.1 C4S back (it was a low miles, perfect condition, 7MT, ducktail car that was a pretty desirable color combo). They suggested a pre-trade to me with a promise I would be on the list for an allocation coming up. While that may have worked out, I told them that this was my daily driver that I couldn't be without and that if they wanted my car they needed to get me an allocation for a replacement. Magically, the wait time for an allocation for me went from "3-6 months, we really aren't sure" to me having one for PTS at a slight discount from MSRP in less than a month.

One they have your pre-trade car I fear that you'll be waiting on an allocation longer than you need to since they don't have much incentive.

I received my allocation for my 992 last December and in January the dealer bought my 991.2 from me. I elected to not have a Porsche for six very long months of withdrawal but I wanted to get the most for my trade and wasn't willing to trust the used car market staying ridiculously high. I'm about to do the same thing with my Volvo and sell it back to the dealer for an excellent price (it will amount to about $3000 in annual depreciation) and have to do without it until mid-October but I am concerned that the used market is starting to soften a little.

Usually pre-trade is like a month or 2. I think and I may be wrong. I'm in GA also.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of pre-trade " I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"
