Heated steering wheel to non-heated

Hello,

I have recently acquired new to me 718 BGTS 4.0 and would like to change the steering wheel from original leather one to alcantara one. Originally the car has steering wheel heating option and the new wheel I found for sale does not. I do not mind not having the heating, but I am afraid about the compatibility.

Does anyone have experience with this? Will there be any error codes or hardware incompatibilities? I would like to retain the original clock spring.

If you read through the thread linked below, it seems that @Bill in Bama inadvertently switched out his heated steering wheel for a non-heated one, and did not have any codes or problems.

Also see the work done in that thread by www.dallassteeringwheel.com You could just have them redo yours in Alcantara....

Tom is correct, you just lose the heating capability. Moving the opposite way isn't possible, at least not without spending tons. I ended up with two extra wheels, one w/o heat and one with.

Okay, sounds good. There will just be a connector in the clock spring without heating connector plugged in. Correct?

Having it redone in alcantara is something I was also thinking about. I am not from US, but still there are places here I can have it done at. But my main reason to not do this is to be able to revert the car back to 100% original condition, which I can do if I keep both wheels.

Yeah, if you read that whole thread, that's why Bill bought a spare and had it recovered -- so he could go back to stock if needed. You might also just get lucky and find the exact wheel you are looking for...
