First air cooled Porsche..engine (no car..yet)

911, 912, 914, 356 and all other air-cooled cars!

I am not so sure that it will be economical as I have not found any Porsche to be called that. I'd say here that it is expensive hobby. Yet, the resale on any Porsche sports car is above excellent.

I had this car that went back to CA for a good price to the buyer.

B32 is cooler, just saying. I would love to build a homage to the B32 on a Westfalia Vanagon, but using a turbonormalized EJ25 instead of a flat six. Unless I can fit a EG33, which is the SVX motor.

Porsches have been pretty economical for me, but that's because I take a lot of time trying to find it. I also can't afford to do crazy builds that don't make a dime. A 914/6 would make more money than a 911 or 912/6 simply because the purchase price of a roller long hood car would be way too high.

Welp it took me about two months to finally pull the trigger, and I scored this for $330 (total).

An 015 MFI pump, correct for my motor. It's missing some bits, but those should be easier to find than I first thought.

Still not sure what I'm going to end up doing with this thing, but this was a necessary part for what I wanted to do. So glad I found one.

I'd really recommend PMO carbs.

There are very few guys left that can sort out the Weber carbs much less the early 1972-1974 ignition systems. Porsche called it the CIS (continuous injection system). These guys are retired and/or hard to contact.

I had PMO's on my 1973 Porsche 2.7L RS replica which even I could tune.

Yes, it will be hard to win the Monterey Concours, but you win the better carb system.

Years long update. I still have the engine, despite having had a couple offers to buy it that I rejected. I have finally acquired an engine yoke though for it though. So now I don't really have any excuses to NOT rebuild it, it's more so "I cannot afford even a 914" to put it in. (I would never sell my 944 even to get a 911)

How about putting it in a Karman Ghia or VW Bus?
