I got an email newsletter from Partworks in Germany, and they now have the 968 timing belt tensioner in stock. Please see https://partworks.de/en-en-en-en-en-par ... -belt.html. Porsche currently lists this item as discontinued.

Partworks also sells the cam chain tensioner pads and chain for much cheaper than I was able to find in the US. The going rate from most of the vendors here is over $300. I ordered an IWIS pad and chain set which is OEM spec for my S2 for about $100 which included shipping to the US and I received it by DHL express in only a few days. Reputable company and easy to order from online. Their webpage has an option to convert to English so you don't have to worry about speaking German. Cheers!

I just ordered new cam tensioner pads for my 1988 S from Byers Porsche. Looking at the parts catalogue, the S2 uses the same tensioner as the S, with the same upper pad part number and complete guide rail kit listed. I originally ordered the complete guide rail kit, however, was told that Porsche now prefers that the components be ordered separately (which is maybe why the complete kit is listed as discontinued on some Porsche dealer sites). Cheaper that way too.

Can it be used instead of the 944 tensioner?Latitude48 wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2024 11:40 am I got an email newsletter from Partworks in Germany, and they now have the 968 timing belt tensioner in stock. It would probably work on the 944 S2 (I might try one) since I do believe some 968 owners have had to switch to the S2 tensioner when their 968 tensioners failed and were NLA. I don't know about the 951 or the NA 944.gruhsy wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 4:44 amCan it be used instead of the 944 tensioner?Latitude48 wrote: Wed Mar 27, 2024 11:40 am I got an email newsletter from Partworks in Germany, and they now have the 968 timing belt tensioner in stock. Great find. I bought mine from partworks and like dealing with them, but this is hard to pass up. Time to stock up on a spare set or two.Sansho wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:12 pm
