Hello, my throttle position sensor and surrounding area seem a bit wet/oily. I have heard a bad air oil separator can cause excess oil in the intake, is there any way to test those?
I am asking because the car came with a spare AOS, however I would not know if the one in the car or the spare one work (so if it has already been replaced or not), since the car has been sitting for a while and the previous owner is unknown. Engine is now running though.

Best thing to do is clean the area up with Simple Green and a nylon brush, etc. and then watch closely to see where the oil is coming from. The AOS has no moving parts so don't usually go bad. Rather, crankcase pressures, turbo seals, blow-by, and other issues can lead to excess oil in the intake. However, oil in the intake will generally stay inside the intake and eventually run through the motor. If your oil is making parts of the motor visibly wet, that means there's an external leak somewhere -- possibly from oil in the intake leaking out couplers or throttle body, but also could be just an oil leak nearby. While cleaning, pull the coupler off the AFM and see how much oil is in there. What year and model is it?
Thanks, will do, diagnosing anything is probably hard as dirty as it is right now.
It's a 1984 NA, I have the AFM and air filter off anyway for a belt change right now, the AFM is definitely a bit oily from the inside, but it doesn't seem too drastic, then again I wouldn't know what would be considered "normal"...

Is it just a film of oil inside or more like a tablespoon or two that you could pour out? An oily film is pretty normal. Puddles are worth investigating.

Pretty normal, but no harm cleaning it up a bit. My guess is something is leaking or misting onto the TPS rather than coming from it. But no way to know without cleaning up and finding the source.Oxi944 wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2024 9:57 am Just a film. I was worried it would keep the plate stuck a bit since it feels a bit tacky, but since throttle response was fine I'm guessing it isn't an issue...
