Just wanted to pass this info on. 07CS 6spd with 49k miles. Car would not start after fueling up. No issue with rate of fueling. Took about 45 min of sitting to finally get it to start. Once started it ran fine for a nice 100 mile rip. Got back home shut it down, waited about 15 seconds and attempted a start. Got a engine gurgle then nothing but normal starter noise. with no engine light off. Let car sit 24 hrs overnight and did a cold start. Started right up and ran it 30 miles, shut it down, attempted re-start....no start. New starter 6 months ago; battery 2 years old and CTEC maintained. Car is driven for fun 500-700 miles monthly.
I found I could get it to hot start if I floored accelerator pedal while engaging starter with a 2000-2500rpm light off and then holding rpms to 1500 for about 10 seconds until rpm's stabilized to 850. Once again this start method was only used on hot starts.
I focused on the EVAP system that basically has 3 components. A valve at the fill nozzle, a charcoal Vapor cannister down steam from that and finally a Vapor cannister purge solenoid which routes fuel vapors back into the engine inlet. I figured that if my Vapor cannister were clogged I would have a constant hot and cold start problem vs just a hot start isue. If the vapor valve at the fuel nozzle failed, my fueling up rate would be super slow. This left me with the the Vapor solenoid as the culprit; I hoped. The part is 987-110-128-01; got it via FCP Euro, $450 part. It takes about 5 minutes to change out once you get to it. It sits Under the bank 2 intake. Yup got to remove all....sucked! These valves fail over time in their static closed position creating a backup of fuel vapors preventing engine start.
Installed new fuel vapor purge solenoid and ALL IS WELL NOW!!
