Just wanted to share my alternator option. I had a Nissan Quest unit, but it was drawing .5 to .7 amps, so it needed to go. I saw a thread from a 928 group about using the Ford Contour unit. This was a very easy conversion. Only the mounting ears needed very little material removed from the back side, and if you use 8mm or 5/16 mounting bolts, it goes right onto the stock mount with no modifications. The alternator I bought was from a 95 Ford Contour 4cyl, it had the correct pulley, and uses the stock belt. The regulator needs to be changed to 97 F150 or equivalent. I am about 200 miles in on this, and it’s working great.

Welcome to Carpokes and great post! I have the Nissan alternator and it's been working great for years (after finally finding a quality rebuild), but I've always thought there must be other alternators that are a closer fit without all the extensive grinding needed for the Nissan one.
