I was scrolling through my past posts and came across this post.
I never finished the story. My wife said I could keep the turbo! (But not paint it) a few weeks after I created this post last year. Since then, I swapped the front panel with the one from my other 951 (failed timing belt-in the queue for repair this summer) and polished/waxed the car and except for the 2 bad spots, looks good from the right angle. I have taken it to a couple HPDEs and upgraded the suspension a tad. I have been working with Tom developing a chip /tuning a stock 951. Smiles continue! Here is a picture from a cars n coffee a couple weeks ago.

The 86 is a nice year for the 951. Cool steering wheel, the nicest phone dials, and yours has no side mouldings.

You just went from Ashy to Classy my friend!

Thats a beautiful car, very glad you saved it and can enjoy it. Did you try sanding down and polishing the worst areas? I would definetly suggest a ceramic coat even if you don't paint it. it would preserve the patina and make it pop!
