I have had 10 P-cars but never a Cayman. Have a lead on a 22k mi. 2006 CaymanS. R they fairly quick? How are they regarding reliability. Searched here without luck.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not an expert on those Caymans by a long shot, but a friend of ours had an early Cayman S that I once got to borrow. It was a manual, and was a ton of fun to drive -- good power and very nimble/tossable. I guess it depends on your reference point and expectations, but it was plenty fast enough to be fun!!

Thanks so much for the great info. A beautiful seal Grey cayman with only 15k miles for 36k bucks was not such a good deal. I have to believe that the Mezger motor in my 07 997 TT might be more stout.

The IMS problems are overblown, a very small % of cars had problems, and the '06 Cayman S was not a very big part of the number of engines affected. I had one, no engine problems whatever and had almost 100,000 miles on mine when I sold it to buy a 981 GTS. It later showed up on Bring a Trailer and I gave the potential buyer my experiences with it. I think he bought it. The 987 chassis is a bit more raw than the 981/982 models but a very fun car and many are now priced more reasonable than the later models. Of course a PPI is recommended on any potential buy, can't be too careful.

The tech links were good info. THanks so much. I am still sitting on the fence. I have to sell my 07 911TT cause I would have to build another garage if I do not. The TT is a garage queen. Bend OR has grown a lot but the infrastructure has not. Streets are crowded and plenty weekenders think nothing of running red lights and worse. So I bought a small PU truck as a daily but it is just no fun. So I thought an old Porsche costing about a third as much (Cayman) seems to fit the bill. Anybody know cost of rebuild on Cayman motor?

I don't know but I do know it's not cheap. Don't automatically assume a used Cayman will need an engine rebuild. Many are well over 100k and still running strong. Find one with good records and a history of regular use. Recent Pano ads list several 987 Cayman with fairly low miles for high 20's or low 30's. Unless of course you want a project car, which would cost much less but need lots of TLC ($$$).

Does anyone have any experience with Slakker Performance In Oklahoma City.
They are the Hartech authorized rebuilder here in the states.
They do plenty of videos online, so I guess they've got a following.
They say they can rebuild my 2.7 L and increase it to a 3.9L and 340 HP, all for only $30K!
